Water Safety

The Davie Family YMCA invites each of our members to enjoy the pool and to take advantage of the many programs we offer in a safe and courteous fashion. We take our responsibility to the well-being of all individuals using the pool very seriously. We require all individuals to abide by the rules and regulations posted in the pool area and to follow the directives of lifeguards and aquatics staff as they relate to proper conduct and pool safety.

Certain emergency situations require us to close the pool for reasons of health, safety or insurance company requirements. These include, but are not limited to, the treatment of water contaminants and thunderstorm activity in the area. Please be aware that water contaminant cleanup may take up to 24 hours. The incidence of closings due to contamination can be reduced by following these simple guidelines:

  • Do not use the pool if you or your child has had diarrhea in the previous two (2) weeks
  • Shower yourself and your child before entering the pool
  • Do not rinse diaper-aged children in the pool before, during or after diaper changes
  • Assist young children in making frequent visits to the bathroom to minimize accidents
  • Do not rinse hands in the pool following a trip to the bathroom or changing a child's diaper. Wash hands correctly by using soap and warm water.
  • Please feed children more that one (1) hour prior to swimming. This tends to reduce the incidence of vomiting.
